Michigan Folklórico Festival 2024

Meet the Instructor: Maestra Laura

This inaugural event kicks off with an all-day workshop, led by the esteemed Laura Jiménez Méndez de Quintanilla from Jalisco, Mexico. With her wealth of experience as a touring member of the Ballet Folklórico de la Universidad de Colima, Maestra Laura has had many opportunities to perform in Mexico, the U.S., and Europe. She will guide attendees in mastering three regional dances from Jalisco and Colima in the Ranchero style. Additionally, participants will have the opportunity to attend a workshop to create traditional costume pieces for these dances. On the second day, dancers will showcase their new skills in a culminating performance. Community members are highly encouraged to attend this free performance, where they can expect an unforgettable showcase of vibrant costumes, energetic choreography, and captivating live music.

Join us for the first-ever Michigan Folklorico Festival, taking place at the University of Michigan-Flint! This festival invites dancers of all ages, backgrounds, and skill levels to immerse themselves in a celebration of Mexican folkloric dance and culture. Registration is open now on our website and the link is in our bio. Don’t miss out on this spectacular event!
